Festival Tudo é Jazz stirs Ouro Preto

The Ouro Preto International Jazz Festival – Tudo é Jazz celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2022, being the oldest festival of the genre in Minas Gerais and one of the largest in the country. This 20th edition of Tudo é Jazz arrives in the historic city this Sunday (31/7) and the program extends until the 7th of August, with concerts by Madeleine Pieroux, Ana Cañas, tributes to Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as an exhibition of photographs, workshops, conversation circles and lecture by stylist Ronaldo Fraga. The festival pays tribute to its creator, Maria Alice Martins (August 1951 – November 2020). The curatorship of Tudo é Jazz is signed by the pianist and composer Tulio Mourão and the general direction is by Rud Carvalho.

“The event brings together tradition and innovation, connecting artists from different generations and nationalities, bringing to the public what is most relevant in the music produced today, not only in Brazil, but also in other parts of the world”, comments Rud. “Urban, classic and contemporary meet in this space marked by sound plurality where jazz is the guiding thread”, summarizes Tulio Mourão.

Among the international attractions are Madeleine Pieroux (USA), on August 5th (Friday), at 11:30 pm, and Hugo Fattoruso and Quinteto Barrio Sur (Uruguay), the following day, at 9:30 pm, both in Tiradentes Square.

Hugo Fattoruso and Quinteto Barrio Sur (Uruguay) will perform with a musical proposal called Candombe World Theme – a fusion of classic, contemporary and avant-garde Candombe with electronic elements. With this unique musical conception they have already received several awards, including the Graffiti Award 2017 for the album “BARRIO SUR”. With an irreverent style, they use a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments to cover Uruguayan and world songs, in addition to their own songs.

In addition to the Tribute to Frank Sinatra, which will feature Brazilian musicians of national renown, another tribute will delight the public. This time, to the Grande Dame of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald, the most popular singer of the genre in the United States for more than half a century.

The Sino-Brazilian singer born in Brasilia, Chon Tai, and the guitarist and composer Renato Saldanha join in the show Sophisticated Lady, on August 4th (Thursday), at 9 pm, at the restaurant O Passo Pizza Jazz, for a tribute to the partnership of Ella Fitzgerald and guitarist

Renowned stylist Ronaldo Fraga will also be in Ouro Preto on July 31, to give the lecture “Connection on the concept of projected music in fashion and crafts”, which will take place in the auditorium of Casa de Gonzaga.
