A young entrepreneur acquired her first apartment, located in Barra da Tijuca, a neighborhood in the west of Rio de Janeiro, and decided to renovate it to gain two suites, a large environment with an integrated kitchen and living room and a toilet.
the office project SketchLab Architecture commanded the general transformations of all the rooms.
The new owner asked the architects for an apartment clear and timelesswith subtle and delicate decoration, space for a home office and kitchen integrated into the living room, in addition to practical materials and finishes that facilitate the maintenance and cleaning from the house on a daily basis, even because she knew that she would live there in the company of her inseparable French bulldog.
“The option for porcelain flooring, polystyrene baseboards and anti-allergic and waterproof carpet helped in this regard”, punctuates the professionals.
Originally, the apartment had two bedrooms (one of them a suite), a very small social bathroom, a small internal circulation area, kitchen and service area. In the new floor plan, the service area was incorporated into the kitchen, which is now also integrated into the living room.
The social bathroom, which led to the circulation of the rooms, was transformed into the bathroom of the home office, which also became suite. In the end, both bedrooms had access facing the living room.
“Although we worked predominantly with sober and light colors, the client requested to use black in the kitchen, both on the countertop and in the cabinets.
To warm the environment and prevent it from being out of touch with the general context, we chose freijó in the upper cabinets and installed an LED profile, from outside to outside on the ceiling, thus ensuring that the choice of colors did not transform the environment into a dark spot in the apartment. “, explains the office.
The kitchen also gained a high bench with two stools for quick meals, right next to the dining table with four chairs.
In the living room, the white lacquer panel, executed in joinery and applied to some walls, and the lowered ceiling at different heights helped to visually sectorize the living and dining areas, as the environments are fully integrated.
Finally, the resident’s suite received a “Instagrammable” bathroom with a mix of coatings, shower on the ceiling, black metals and lighting behind the mirror.
“As the client is passionate about selfies in the mirror, she asked us for a different aesthetic in her bathroom, something bolder, with more personality than the rest of the apartment. Together, we opted for the mix of marbled and slatted coatings”, say the architects .
